Tasmanians are being asked to pull on their brightest socks on October 30 to raise money for patient care and research at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
The sock day is part of the Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation’s Rock for the Royal campaign, which runs throughout October. The foundation has set a fundraising goal of $50,000.
Foundation chief executive Stephanie Furler said hosting a Rock Your Socks Off fundraiser was one of the easiest ways to get involved.
“We are encouraging workplaces, schools, community groups and individuals to wear their brightest and boldest socks while raising funds for the Royal,” she said.

“Almost every Tasmanian has a connection to the Royal, whether they have received care or supported a family member or friend through treatment.”
Furler said people could organise an event at work or in their community group or make a donation online.

“Every contribution will help,” she said.
“Importantly, every dollar raised will stay in Tasmania to fund research, medical equipment and patient care at Tassie’s largest hospital.”
Gloo Advertising was one of the first businesses to sign up. Managing director Raz Haroon said the company wanted to support the campaign because strong healthcare mattered to every Tasmanian, including his team.
“Getting the whole team ready to rock their socks has been a lot of fun,” he said.

“Every dollar raised goes straight into better care and research for Tasmanians and that’s something worth making noise about.”
Tassal is also holding a Rock Your Socks fundraiser for its staff. Cripps is donating $10 from every pair of its limited-edition Cripps Ambassador Signature Socks sold and 20 cents from every six-pack of Cripps Lunch Rolls sold during October.
The campaign also includes the 7HOFM Air Guitar Challenge, with five finalists to compete live at the Royal Hobart Show for a prize pack.
More information about the campaign and how to donate is available on the Rock for the Royal website.
