Community groups, not-for-profits, councils and organisations across Tasmania can now apply for grants of up to $25,000 through TasPorts’ refreshed $100,000 community grant program.

Applications for the 2026 round opened on today and will close on May 31, with funding available for projects delivered between July 2026 and June 2027.

The updated program shifts to an annual funding cycle and focuses on three areas – community wellbeing and inclusion, maritime safety and preparedness and environment, heritage and maritime culture.

TasPorts is encouraging applications from those delivering projects in or around port communities.

TasPorts interim CEO Allan Gray said the changes reflect a more strategic approach to community investment.

“Our ports are vital to Tasmania’s communities, and this program is about supporting the people, ideas and initiatives that help those communities thrive,” Gray said.

“By moving to an annual program and increasing the level of funding available, we’re able to support projects with greater impact and build stronger, more meaningful connections across the regions in which we operate,” he said.

The program was first launched in 2022 and has since handed out $400,000 to 99 organisations across the state.

Past recipients include grassroots events, water safety programs and environmental and heritage projects.

Jenny Brazier from the Circular Head Landcare Group, a past grant recipient, said the bigger funding pool would let community groups aim higher.

“It’s hugely encouraging for community groups to know there’s funding behind their ideas, along with support from industry partners,” Brazier said.

“This increased funding will allow groups like ours to think bigger and deliver projects that create lasting impact.”

“Support from TasPorts has made a real difference towards our rice grass eradication program, and we’re grateful for their ongoing encouragement.”
