A 16-year-old has been charged with arson after allegedly setting fire to his own bedroom at a home in East Devonport on Saturday evening.
Police say the teenager deliberately lit a fire inside his bedroom at a property on Canning Drive, causing extensive fire damage to the room and significant smoke damage throughout the rest of the home.
The damage is estimated at around $100,000.
The youth was arrested nearby shortly after the incident.

Detectives from the Western Criminal Investigation Branch led the investigation.
The teenager has also been charged with two counts of common assault over separate incidents alleged to have occurred earlier this month.

He was held to appear before the Youth Justice Court.
