Teen trapped in car for ‘some time’ following serious Launceston crash

A teenage driver is in a serious condition after crashing into the centre barrier on West Tamar Road in Launceston overnight.

The 18-year-old was trapped in his green Ford Falcon for “some time” following the crash, which occurred around 2:15am on Saturday.

Police said the young man was eventually freed by emergency services and taken to the Launceston General Hospital.

“The crash blocked this section of West Tamar Road for several hours, with traffic diversions being put in place,” police said.

“The cause of the crash is still under investigation.”

Police are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
