Teenage thieves target cars parked at Burnie/Wynyard Airport

Dozens of travellers are expected to return home to find their cars damaged or potentially missing after two teenagers were arrested over a series of airport burglaries overnight.

Police say multiple vehicles parked at the Burnie/Wynyard Airport car park were allegedly hit by the teenagers on Monday night.

One suspect, an 18-year-old from Rosebery, faces charges including seven counts of burglary, motor vehicle theft, property damage and drug offences.

A 19-year-old from Wynyard has also been charged with seven counts of burglary, motor vehicle theft and property damage.

Two more people still “wanted for questioning”, including a 15-year-old from Wynyard and a fourth male, who remains on the run.

Travellers returning to the airport in the coming days are urged to contact police if they suspect their vehicle was unlawfully entered in the car park overnight.
