Thousands of carrots have spilled across the Bass Highway near Lillico, creating a traffic hazard that’s forced police to slow speeds to 40km/h on the busy stretch just west of Devonport.
Tasmania Police say a truck carrying the carrots is believed to have lost part of its load, scattering thousands of the vegetables across the westbound lanes of the highway.
Officers arrived at the scene around 4:20pm and the hazard is expected to remain until clean-up crews can get there this evening.
The road remains open but slower speed limits are in place.

“Motorists are asked to exercise caution, obey speed limits and the directions of authorities on scene,” police said.
No crash occurred and no one was injured.

Police are now trying to track down the truck involved in the incident and are calling for witnesses.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage has been asked to contact police on 131 444.
