TreeClimb Hobart will stay closed until the new year while its operators complete extra registration requirements requested by Kingborough Council.

The aerial adventure park at The Lea Scout Centre, between Kingston and Hobart, has been shut since October 9, when it closed at the council’s direction. It opened on July 4.

TreeClimb general manager Rhiannon Noble said the process involves new site surveys and updated engineering documents.

Once the council approves them, the company expects around two weeks of site works.

“The aerial adventure course itself is unaffected,” Noble told Pulse.

“There has been no incident prompting the closure and we’re working closely with council to make sure everything is completed to their satisfaction.”

“We know it’s disappointing for the families who were hoping to visit but fingers crossed we’re aiming to re-open in January, ready for the busy summer holidays.”

In a social media post, the park said the registration requirements were “now being requested retrospectively by council”.

The company said all affected guests had been contacted and their bookings credited and they would get first access to rebook once a reopening date was confirmed.

When the park first closed in October, a council spokesperson said the council was “unable to comment on the details due to privacy and procedural requirements”.

“Any questions about the operation of a particular facility should be directed to the facility’s operators,” they said at the time.

The park has more than 600 metres of ziplines across six courses. It is the first TreeClimb park outside South Australia.
