Westerly winds of 60 to 70km/h and gusts exceeding 100km/h are expected to impact southern, central and eastern regions into Monday afternoon.

“Peak gusts of around 120km/h remain possible about the exposed and elevated areas of the state,” the BOM said.

“Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds by the late afternoon as the front clears the state, though conditions will remain gusty.”

The BOM said significant wind gust observations up to 10:30am on Monday included 93km/h at Hobart, 111km/h at Cape Bruny and 152km/h at kunanyi/Mount Wellington.

A 132km/h gust was recorded at Scotts Peak Dam, a 124km/h gust at Hartz Mountains and 150km/h gust at Maatsuyker Island.

The winds have downed several trees and powerlines, predominately in the Huon area, closing several roads.
