An ‘unauthorised’ anti-stadium banner attached to the chimney of Hobart’s iconic Gas Works was not approved and will be taken down, Pulse understands.

The removal, which will happen ‘as soon as possible’, comes after concerns were raised over the impact of the ‘No Stadium’ sign on the heritage-listed building.

Messages obtained by Pulse from a tenant inside the complex confirmed the banner ‘did not have the authorisation of body corporate’ or individual businesses.

“We empathise with your frustration over this messaging and hope that you continue to shop with us once [it has] been removed,” the message said.

The tenant said the removal of the banner is currently being arranged, however due to the high volume of traffic at the intersection, this can only be done during certain times.

Images of the banner, which is located more than two storeys above the ground, first appeared on the Grassroots Action Network Tasmania on Wednesday morning alongside the caption ‘NO STADIUM’.
