Police believe a fire that gutted a vacant house in New Town in the early hours of Thursday may have been deliberately lit.
Emergency services were called to the Raluana Lane property in Hobart’s north around 2:35am yesterday.
The house was significantly damaged in the blaze, which firefighters contained and extinguished.
Nobody was living at the property at the time.
A witness reported seeing two tall men riding bicycles in the area shortly after the fire started.
“Investigations are continuing and while the cause of the fire remains undetermined, police suspect it may have been deliberately lit,” a police spokesperson said.
Police are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area around the time of the fire to come forward.
Anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage is also urged to contact police, quoting reference number OR816881.
