Australia has made the semi-final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in history and you can watch it for free around Tasmania tonight.
After recording record TV viewership numbers on Saturday night, the Matildas are preparing to do it all again when they take on England at Sydney’s Stadium Australia later today.
Following a large crowd outside Parliament Lawns in Hobart on Saturday, tonight’s live viewing will be moved across the road to the larger PW1 forecourt.
UTAS Stadium in Launceston and Devonport’s Market Square will also show the semi-final from 7pm.
Viewers are encouraged to secure a spot by arriving before kick-off at 8pm.
Yesterday, Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the state government “won’t support” a public holiday should the Matildas secure a victory tonight – news that didn’t go down well with some.
His daughters were among those upset, with Rockliff jokingly sharing a screenshot of his daughters slamming him in the family group chat.
One of Premier Rockliff’s 3 daughters sent a screenshot of a Pulse story covering the announcement, saying “DAD WTF”.
Another daughter, Ruby, chimed in – saying “NO DAD WE NEED A PUBLIC HOLIDAY”.
