A 26-year-old woman has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving after she allegedly struck her partner with a car in the front yard of a Warrane home early this morning.
The woman, also from Warrane, is accused of driving a white Holden Commodore station wagon into a 29-year-old man on Bounty Street around 1:10am on Friday.
Police say the pair have been in a relationship for nine years and the incident is being investigated as a serious family violence matter.
The man underwent surgery and remains in Royal Hobart Hospital with serious internal injuries.
Tasmania Police Detective Inspector David Gill said he “suffered a number of internal fractures and also internal bleeding” and that “his condition is very serious”.
Police allege the woman drove the car up the street, reversed back along Bounty Street, then drove forward into the front yard of a residential property where the man was standing.
The vehicle crashed through a boundary fence, hit the man and then slammed into the house before coming to a stop against a fence.
“The speed was sufficient to cause serious injuries to the male and also to the house after the motor vehicle struck the house,” a police spokesperson said.
Four other people were inside the home at the time but no other injuries were reported.
The woman was charged by officers from South East CIB and has been held in custody to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Saturday.
