A 55-year-old man has been charged with murder after an 85-year-old woman was found dead inside a Huonville home early this morning.
Police were called to the property on Stride Street around 4:30am on Sunday and found the woman deceased.
The woman is believed to have lived at the address.
Her death was initially treated as suspicious before detectives from the South East Criminal Investigation Branch laid the murder charge, with police confirming the charge at 2:45pm this afternoon.
Officers from the CIB, forensics and uniform branches attended the scene to examine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
The Huonville man has been detained and is set to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court on Monday morning.
“Police are investigating the suspicious death of a woman who was found deceased inside her home on Stride Street, Huonville, this morning,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said.
“A man has been taken into custody to assist police in carrying out their investigations.”
