The Tasmanian Football Club has officially found a home for its new $70 million training and administration facility, with Kingborough’s Twin Ovals chosen as the location.
The site south of Hobart, located within the broader Kingborough sports complex, was selected over Rosny Parklands on Hobart’s eastern shore.
Rosny had been the preferred site for both the state government and the Club, but cost overruns of up to $140 million made the move south to Kingston more financially viable.
“It’s taken us a while to get to this stage, to announce the location today, but that’s been a really important time spent with an objective due diligence process,” Club Chair Grant Brian said.
“Taking that time now to make sure this is the right location is just the right thing to do, as opposed to getting down the track and getting surprises.”
“The upside of taking the time that we have to get to this point is that we’re going to be able to move very quickly through the design process and therefore create momentum for the delivery of the facility.”
The facility will span 9,000 square metres and feature state-of-the-art aquatic and gym facilities, recovery areas and administration offices.
The club aims to have the facility ready in time for the arrival of its AFLW and AFL teams in 2027 and 2028 respectively.
“That sounds like a long way away, but every day we face the reality of that’s coming at us rather quickly,” O’Brien said.
“We’ve got to have this facility up and running so that it’s ready to welcome the players as they start to arrive.”
