A young woman from Wynyard in Northern Tasmania is fighting for her life after a car crash two weeks ago that has left her in an induced coma in a Hobart hospital since the accident.
Macy Edwards was on her way home from a tour guide training course in Launceston when the accident occurred, leaving her with a significant list of injuries, including brain and heart trauma, a broken pelvis, collarbone, ribs, as well as neck and tailbone fractures.
Macy now needs around-the-clock care from specialists and due to the extent of her injuries, she may need to be flown to Melbourne when she is in a stable condition.
Allie House and Fiona Pearce, organisers of a GoFundMe campaign, explained that Macy’s journey ahead is uncertain, but it is expected to be a long and intense road to recovery.
“The extent of her injuries and the impact this will have on her is still unknown, however it is expected to be a long and intense journey ahead for Macy,” the GoFundMe says.
“Macy, just like her family, is a truly people and community-oriented soul. You may know her from Bruces or Cafe Umami, where she affectionately refers to herself as an “underwater ceramic technician” (aka a kitchenhand).”
“She is a larrakin who is full of life, has a love of people, and is designed and destined for helping others.”
Macy’s parents, Celisa and Eddie, have put their lives on hold to support her, with Mum Celisa pausing her work to be with Macy in Hobart and Dad Eddie also halting his gardening business.
The GoFundMe campaign has raised over $42,000, surpassing their target of $40,000.
