Man charged with attempted murder remanded in custody over Wynyard alleged shooting

A Tasmanian man accused of shooting another man in the stomach has been remanded in custody after facing court on a string of charges, including attempted murder.

Brady Christopher Oates, 32, appeared in the Burnie Magistrates Court on Thursday. He is yet to enter pleas.

Police allege Oates shot a 37-year-old man on Sandpiper Road at Wynyard shortly after 3pm on May 13.

The injured man was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Officers allege Oates tried to hide the firearm at the property before fleeing on foot.

He was tracked down at a house in Belton Street around 1pm the following day, ending a 22-hour operation involving uniformed officers, detectives and specialist resources.

Oates faces 18 charges, including attempted murder, wounding and committing an unlawful act intended to cause bodily harm.

He has also been charged with several firearm and ammunition offences, two counts of aggravated burglary, three counts of stealing, burglary, trespass in a vehicle, driving while disqualified and multiple drug-related offences.

Oates was remanded in custody on Thursday and is due to appear by video link on June 16.
