Two young fishermen have been rescued from the D’Entrecasteaux Channel after their boat overturned near Bruny Island.
The men, both in their 20s, were thrown into the water when their vessel struck a fish pen near Great Bay this morning.
They managed to climb onto the pen and call for help before nearby marine workers came to their rescue.
Inspector Justin Lawson said the men were cold and wet but otherwise unharmed.
“The men, both aged in their 20s, were thrown into the water but were able to climb onto the pen before seeking assistance,” he said.

“Luckily, local marine workers were able to quickly assist the men, who were cold and wet but otherwise unharmed.”
Lawson confirmed both men were wearing lifejackets at the time of the incident.
He praised the quick response of the workers who reached the pair.
“These young men were fortunate to receive such a rapid response from people nearby and it’s a strong reminder for boat operators to carry and be familiar with all the necessary marine emergency equipment, including radios and flares,” he said.
“Our thanks go to the local workers whose swift and professional response led to a positive outcome.”
