Residents near Droughty Point can expect increased helicopter activity on weeknights throughout the next month as emergency crews carry out planned training exercises.
Tasmania Police said the flights are part of essential night-time training involving Ambulance Tasmania and StarFlight Australia onboard the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Tasmania.
The exercises are designed to allow pilots, aircrew, paramedics, medical staff and emergency responders to train together in realistic conditions.
“Whether it’s a search and rescue mission, a medical retrieval, a marine emergency or a major incident, these exercises allow pilots, aircrew, paramedics, medical staff and emergency responders to train together in realistic conditions, build their skills and strengthen coordination between agencies,” a spokesperson said.

The training covers a range of scenarios the crews may face during real callouts.
Tasmania Police acknowledged the flights may cause additional noise for nearby residents in places like Tranmere and Rokeby on Hobart’s eastern shore.

“We understand the training may create additional noise for nearby residents and we appreciate your patience and understanding,” a police spokesperson said.
“While it can be disruptive, this training is a critical investment in the capability of the crews who respond when Tasmanians need help most.”
Tasmania Police urged anyone in the area not to be concerned by the increased helicopter presence.
