Launceston’s Elphin Sports Centre will receive an extra $2.1 million for accessibility upgrades as part of the state budget.
The funding will go towards improvements to the car park and disability toilet at the facility.
It comes on top of $2.6 million already set aside for upgrades, including work to replace the centre’s lift.
Sport Minister Nick Duigan said the investment would help future-proof a facility that’s served the northern Tasmanian community for years.

“We had already allocated $2.6 million for upgrades at the centre, and this additional funding will complete important accessibility upgrades,” he said.
Priority works planned over the next two years include repairing the lift, upgrading amenities with an initial focus on toilets, basins and floors, and fixing parts of the roof and ceiling.

Repairs to internal walls, doors, building entrances and stairways are also on the list, along with improvements to car park surfacing, stormwater and lighting.
“We are investing in local sporting infrastructure to ensure Tasmanians can stay active and participate in the sports they love,” Duigan said.
