A passenger in a car travelling on the wrong side of the Bass Highway remains in hospital with serious injuries following a three-vehicle crash overnight.
Emergency services were called to the smash near the Porters Bridge Road overpass at Exton around 9:30pm on Saturday.
Police said the seriously-injured person was a passenger in a black MG that was heading west.
Preliminary investigations indicate the MG “veered into the eastbound lane before colliding with a silver Mazda Tribute”.
This then caused a black Toyota 86 to collide with the rear of the Mazda.
Four others, including the drivers of each vehicle and another passenger, were taken to the Launceston General Hospital with minor injuries.
“The passenger of the MG was treated by paramedics at the scene for serious leg injuries before being taken to the Launceston General Hospital,” police said.
“They were later transferred to the Royal Hobart Hospital for further treatment.”
The highway was closed for around two and a half hours while emergency services investigated the crash scene.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward.
