The final makeup of Tasmania’s next state parliament, featuring many familiar faces alongside a significant number of newcomers, has been confirmed.
After weeks of counting, the Liberals secured 14 seats, Labor 10, the Greens five, the Jacqui Lambie Network three and independents three.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said that with 35 members, including 13 new faces, now officially elected, he would advise Governor Barbara Baker to recommission him to form a new government.
“I am confident that we now have a Parliament comprised of members who are committed to providing the stability and certainty that Tasmania needs and who will put the best interests of Tasmanians first,” he said.
“The new Government will be steadfast in its commitment to delivering every element of the Liberals’ 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.”
Rockliff said he has been having “constructive and positive discussions” with Jacqui Lambie Network members and independents, but confirmed he remained committed to the “principles … outlined on day one”.
“No deals with the Greens, no trading of Ministries and no compromise of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future,” he said.
“The people of Tasmania have had their say and the will of the voters must be respected.”
“I want to assure every single Tasmanian, including those who did not vote for us, that I have heard their message and we will re-double our efforts to serve you in the years ahead.”
