A school bus full of students travelled through Hobart’s eastern suburbs with its rear doors swinging open while in motion, leaving children centimetres from falling out of the moving bus.
The incident occurred on the 8am route 345 Metro bus travelling from Shoreline in Howrah to MacKillop College in Mornington on Tuesday, prompting a parent to speak out about safety concerns.
Video taken by a student on board shows the doors open while the bus was moving.
A parent who contacted Pulse said the doors kept opening while the bus was travelling and the driver pulled over several times to manually shut them.

When the doors kept reopening, the driver continued on the route.
The parent said the bus was at capacity, with students forced to stand because there were no seats available.

Her daughter was among those standing near the faulty doors and captured the footage.
The parent said she called Metro at around 4pm on the same day to report the problem.
She said the staff member she spoke with “didn’t seem to understand the gravity of it” and told her he would file a report.
In response to questions from Pulse, a Metro spokesperson confirmed the problem.

“Metro has been made aware of an issue confirming a rear door opened while in service,” the spokesperson said.
“Metro has removed the bus from service and is fully investigating.”
“Metro will also notify WorkSafe.”
