Former Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein has been hired by Hobart-based ferry builder Incat as a strategic advisor to help the company transition into building electric ferries.
Incat Chairman Bob Clifford hopes the move will not only double Incat’s workforce but also significantly lower emissions from the world shipping fleet.
In an interview, Mr. Gutwein said that his desire to make the world a better place was a factor in his decision to join Incat. “After I came out of government, one of the things I decided to do after taking a significant break was to focus on how I can make the world a better place,” he said.

“And one of the things Incat will do, in turning out these electric ferries, is significantly lower the emissions from the world shipping fleet as a result. That’s both good of the planet and importantly it will be good for Tasmania.”
Incat’s Chairman Bob Clifford said Mr Gutwein’s experience and expertise in government would be valuable in helping the company navigate the transition to electric ferries.
