Three young people have been charged over an alleged armed robbery at a bottle shop in Hobart’s northern suburbs that left a staff member injured.

Police allege the trio walked into the store at Northgate shopping centre in Glenorchy around 4pm on Tuesday, stole a quantity of alcohol and assaulted a staff member.

Security staff stepped in and held one of the alleged offenders until police arrived.

The staff member was treated at the Royal Hobart Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

A 19-year-old Warrane man, a 21-year-old Chigwell man and a 17-year-old have each since been charged with aggravated armed robbery.

All three were detained to appear in court on Thursday.

Glenorchy deputy mayor Russell Yaxley condemned the alleged robbery, saying no one should face violence at work.

“This is simply unacceptable and absolutely not good enough,” Yaxley said.

“Nobody should turn up to work at Northgate or anywhere in our city and face violence. I have no tolerance for this. Even one incident is one too many.”

Yaxley thanked the security staff and retail workers caught up in the alleged incident, as well as police.
