Labor has seized a narrow lead in the race for the next Tasmanian election, with health spending emerging as the top issue for more than half of voters, according to a new YouGov poll.
The poll, conducted between June 12 and 24, shows Labor sitting at 34% of the primary vote, up five points since the 2024 election.
The Liberal Party trails just behind at 31%, while support for independents has jumped to 18% and the Greens are steady on 13%.
“Labor is on course to become the largest party in what will still be a hung parliament,” said Paul Smith, Director of Public Data at YouGov.
“With strong opposition to privatisation and clear support for health and public housing investment, this election is being shaped by fundamental public concerns.”
Healthcare was named by 52% of respondents as a key issue when deciding how to vote.

Public housing came next at 45%, while 41% want state debt reduced through higher taxes on those who can afford it.
Privatisation, now ruled out by the Liberals and Labor, is proving a divisive topic, with 47% opposed to asset sales compared to 36% in favour.
The Macquarie Point AFL stadium project also remains unpopular, with 33% opposed and 22% backing the plan.
Despite Labor’s lead on primary votes, Jeremy Rockliff still has the edge as preferred premier, leading Labor’s Dean Winter 43% to 36%.

However, 21% of voters are still undecided on who they want as leader.
“The final outcome will depend on how effectively each party connects with voters on the issues that matter most to them,” Smith said.
