A man has been charged after another man was critically injured in an alleged assault at Railton, in Tasmania’s north-west.
The 42-year-old man, from Tarleton, has been charged with committing an unlawful act intended to cause bodily harm.
He is due to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court tonight.
Tasmania Police said emergency services were called to a home in Railton around 8:30am on Wednesday following reports a man had been assaulted.
The alleged offender had left the scene by the time officers arrived but was arrested nearby a short time later, police said.
The victim, a 48-year-old Railton man, was initially taken to the Mersey Community Hospital in a serious condition.
He has since been transferred to the Royal Hobart Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
“The victim and offender are known to each other and there was no threat to the wider community,” a police spokesperson said.
“Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.”
A crime scene had been declared at the home on Wednesday.
