A man found critically injured in Hobart’s New Town early on Friday has died in hospital, police have confirmed.
The victim in his 50s was allegedly struck by a 4WD in a suspected hit-and-run on Swanston Street near Kmart around 2:50am on Friday.
He underwent surgery but did not survive his injuries.
Detective Inspector David Gill earlier said police had seized a vehicle believed to be involved and were questioning two individuals.
“Throughout [Friday], detectives have undertaken numerous enquiries … to determine the movements of the man … and how he sustained his injuries,” he said.
“The police investigation is ongoing and I ask anyone with information to come forward.”
The pair allegedly in the vehicle at the time it was on Swanston Street are “assisting police with their enquiries”.
Police are yet to lay any charges.
