A Tarleton man has faced court charged with murder after another man died following an alleged assault at Railton in Tasmania’s north-west.
Dominic Alexander Carbonari, 42, appeared in the Devonport Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon via video link from Risdon Prison.
The matter was adjourned until Monday, October 26, with Carbonari remanded in custody.
Emergency services were called to a private home at Railton, south of Devonport, around 8:30am on Wednesday after reports a man had been assaulted.
The 48-year-old man was taken by ambulance to the Mersey Community Hospital before being transferred to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition. He died there on Thursday night.
Police allege Carbonari left the scene before officers arrived and was arrested at a nearby location a short time later.
He was initially charged with carrying out an unlawful act intended to cause bodily harm. The charge was upgraded to murder after the man died.
Police say the two men knew each other.
