More than 90 people have been intercepted during a Police, Parks and Wildlife Service and Transport Tasmania joint operation between Arthur River and Sandy Cape on the State’s West Coast over the weekend.
The operation, which sought to crack down on hooning and dangerous behaviour in isolated areas, resulted in several offenders being caught out for various offences.
Two drink drivers were detected, including a provisional driver who had a reading of 0.018.
Additionally, 10 defect notices were issued for unroadworthy vehicles and three infringement notices were issued for unregistered motor vehicles.
Infringements were also issued for marine and safety as well as netting offences.
Several cautions were given out by PWS Rangers for failing to hold the required permit for driving vehicles in the reserve.
Inspector Anthea Maingay said that people who go to these isolated areas to relax and unwind don’t want their enjoyment interrupted by people who feel the law doesn’t apply to them.
“This operation sends a clear message that authorities will go to these areas to ensure that everyone can enjoy their break safely,” she said.
