Liberal Leader Peter Dutton won’t be making a trip down to Tasmania during the state election campaign due to scheduling constraints, Jeremy Rockliff has confirmed.
Instead, Rockliff said Dutton had shown his support in January by visiting the local salmon industry on the state’s west coast.
Despite Dutton’s absence during the campaign, Rockliff was confident it wouldn’t have a significant impact on the campaign.
“It says that I don’t need anyone holding my hand,” he said.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese attended Labor’s campaign launch in Launceston over the weekend, alongside Rebecca White and other prospective MPs.
“Even spuds are deserting the so called spud farmer with Peter Dutton refusing to go near Jeremy Rockliff’s campaign,” Labor’s Dean Winter said.
“It’s telling that Mr Dutton didn’t think it was a priority to do the same for Mr Rockliff.”
“It is unprecedented that a federal leader wouldn’t back in their state counterpart during an election.”
