The Obar Bunny has sold for $13,000, ending the auction for one of Hobart’s most recognisable bar fixtures.
The oversized rabbit which greeted revellers at Hobart’s Observatory Bar for years, attracted widespread attention during the online auction, with bogus bids briefly pushing the price above $3 million before they were stripped out.
The final sale price fell $7000 short of the $20,000 Apex Advisory managing director Tim Booker had hoped to see when he spoke to Pulse last week.
The auction closed as the Observatory Bar and Post Street Social held their final weekend of trade, with food and drink specials marking the occasion.
Both venues are part of the Pub Banc Group, which entered voluntary administration in early July.
The collapse forced seven venues to close and left more than 80 staff without work.
Booker has previously said the company would most likely move into liquidation after a second creditors meeting expected soon.
The Republic Bar building in North Hobart has already been sold to an external investor seeking operators.
The Post Street Social building is also nearing the end of its sale campaign, with more than 45 inquiries from potential operators.
Booker has said he hoped some venues could reopen under new management.
