Police caught 114 drivers making a banned left turn in the Hobart CBD in just two hours on Thursday morning, nine days after the restriction came into effect.
The operation was run at the corner of Argyle and Liverpool streets, where most drivers have been banned from turning left between 7am and 7pm since September 1.
Police said each driver would receive a caution rather than a fine.
“Eyes on the road and pay attention,” police said.
“… All motorists are urged to pay attention and obey signage and road markings when driving.”
“Inattentive driving can result in crashes and puts pedestrians at risk when crossing intersections.”
The restriction, first reported by Pulse, will remain in place for the next 12 months.
It is part of the $130 million expansion of the Royal Hobart Hospital emergency department.
The Department of Health says the change is needed to make room for a new ambulance zone and public drop-off area on Argyle Street.
Buses, taxis and bicycles can still turn left into Liverpool Street. Other traffic must take an alternative route.
The emergency department entrance will move to Argyle Street from 8am on September 15, when the Liverpool Street and Campbell Street entrances close.
