A man has been pepper-sprayed by police after he allegedly resisted arrest following a pursuit across Tasmania’s east coast in a stolen vehicle.
Police were called a store in St Helens on Tuesday morning following a report of a stealing involving the stolen vehicle.
The alleged offender then fled the scene with three other people, leading police on a lengthy evade around 80km down the Esk Highway from St Helens to Avoca.
The group were intercepted using road spikes, with one of the men pepper-sprayed shortly after.
Police say all four people in the vehicle were taken into custody.
“[All four] remain in custody while police are investigating several matters including the theft from the St Helens store, motor vehicle stealing, dangerous driving and evade police,” a spokesperson said.
“Police believe the people in custody can also assist with police enquiries into several other matters.”
