Updated 12pm, Wednesday January 10: A Scamander man who presented himself to the St Helens police station after a firearms incident has been charged.
Police say the 40-year-old reportedly threatened people with a firearm while on private property at Upper Scamander on Monday night.
He has since been charged with firearms-related offences including recklessly discharge a firearm, as well as aggravated burglary and aggravated assault.
He was detained to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
4:20pm, Tuesday January 9: The man allegedly behind a firearms incident in Scamander overnight has been arrested after he showed up at an east coast police station.
According to police, the 40-year-old reportedly threatened people with a firearm at a private property in Upper Scamander on Monday night.
Officers were called to the address after the firearm was allegedly discharged.
Following the incident, the man fled the scene and later presented himself to the St Helens Police Station on Tuesday afternoon, where he was arrested.
“No one was injured in the incident and the people involved are known to each other,” a police spokesperson said.
“Support [is] being provided to those at the property.”
The firearm believed to have been used in the incident has been seized by police.
