The Tasmanian Labor Party has come under fire for reportedly sending unreleased details of its new cyber-security policy to its Liberal opponents by mistake.
Rebecca White mistakenly forwarded the email, containing two attachments, to three of her ministers and a Liberal candidate, believed to be Mark Shelton.
Fellow Liberal Madeleine Ogilvie said the blunder was ironic given the topic of the policy and raised concerns over the origin of the email, given it came from White’s personal parliamentary email address instead of her official one.
“It’s worrying that Ms White has accidentally sent her cyber security policy to her political opponents by getting the email address wrong,” Ogilvie said, as reported by The Advocate.
“Perhaps Labor’s cyber security policy should include an education campaign to remind people to be careful about email addresses.”
The leaked information revealed plans to double funding for Tasmania’s cyber-security defence to $16 million over the next four years.
Labor have criticised the Liberals for capitalising on their mistake, labelling it a ‘cheap shot’ and pointing out that Ogilvie was the Minister in charge when the personal information of 16,000 Tasmanians was leaked to Russian hackers in a 2023 state government cyber attack.
