Two 19-year-olds are in police custody following an alleged robbery at an electronics store in Hobart’s northern suburbs.
The pair are accused of entering Jaycar in Moonah at around 5:20pm on Tuesday and stealing items from the store.
Police said both used “physical force” when confronted by staff members.
According to officers, the male suspect claimed he had a knife when a witness tried to intervene, although investigators believe he wasn’t actually armed at the time.
Sergeant Ricki Eaves said police spotted the young man and woman leaving the area a short time later.
They were arrested and the stolen items were found nearby.
“Tasmania Police are thankful there was a safe and quick resolution to this incident,” he said.
“Shop stealing remains a focus area for police and we will continue to target those offending.”
Sergeant Eaves said police have already spoken to witnesses and are encouraging anyone with more information to come forward.
Both suspects remain in custody as they assist with ongoing enquiries.
