A Bushfire Watch and Act warning has been issued for people in the Boat Harbour Creek area of Flinders Island this afternoon.

The Tasmania Fire Service say there is an “uncontrollable bushfire” that “could put Leeka and West End Road at risk”.

“Embers, smoke, and ash may fall on Leeka and West End Road and threaten you and your home before the main fire arrives,” the TFS say.

Residents in the area should monitor conditions and be ready to enact their bushfire plans.

Wind gusts of 89km/h have been recorded at the Finders Island Airport this afternoon, with a 9am high temperature of 24.9c also measured by the BOM.

TFS what to do:

If you have prepared your home and can actively defend it, it should provide shelter.

If you are going to leave, make sure you have a clear path to a safer place.

If your family has made a bushfire plan, use it now.

If you do not live near Leeka and West End Road, stay away. The roads could be very dangerous.
