Hobart commuters got more than they bargained for this morning when a troupe of performers dressed as tradies staged a fake protest at Brooke Street Pier to spruik this year’s Uni Revue.
Cast members from Uni Revue 2026: Rockliffman waved parody placards poking fun at the Macquarie Point stadium debate, with slogans including “No Mac, No Point”, “Yeah, Nah” and “What do you say to a Praties?”
Passengers arriving on Derwent Ferries were caught off guard, with reactions ranging from laughter and curiosity to mild confusion.
Some commuters tried to quietly slip past the faux protest while others stopped to take photos and chat with performers.

Chants echoed across the waterfront, including “What do we want? Uni Revue! When do we want it? All May!” and “What do we want? Uni Revue! When does it open? Friday!”
The stunt gave the morning rush hour crowd a taste of the chaos and comedy the show promises to deliver.

Uni Revue 2026: Rockliffman – subtitled The Rise, Fall and Rise Again of Tasmania’s Biggest Rock’n’Roll Stadium Spectacular – opens this Friday at Hobart’s Theatre Royal.
The show is a parody of the popular Elton John biopic Rocketman, along with a string of other stadium spectacular shows.
It is the 79th edition of the Uni Revue, produced by the Old Nick Company.
The revue has been a fixture of the Tasmanian theatre scene every year since it began in 1948, delivering a uniquely Tasmanian song and dance comedy show with a strong element of political satire.

Rockliffman is directed by Kristy Baker, choreographed by Ash Boxhall with musical direction by Eric Amani and vocal direction by Jessica Muir.
The show, supported by Pulse Tasmania and Triple M Hobart, features a fast-paced mix of sketch comedy, parody songs, dance and biting local satire.
The Hobart season runs from May 7 to May 23 for 10 shows only, followed by a limited run at Launceston’s Albert Hall from May 28 to May 30 with just three shows.
For the first time in recent memory, the revue will also head to Devonport’s Paranaple Arts Centre from June 4 to June 6 for three shows.
