Friends and family of an underground miner who tragically passed away during his shift at a West Coast mine last week have come together to raise funds for his grieving family.
New Zealander Adrian ‘Kiwi’ Buis passed away suddenly while working at the Avebury Nickel Mine near Zeehan on September 7.
The mine’s general manager John Lamb said Kiwi had been with the mine since May and was a “well loved and respected member” of the team.
‘Kiwi’s Crew’ has already raised $7,420 through a GoFundMe campaign to support his “beautiful family of who he was immensely proud of”.
“As his work mates, we want to do something for Kiwi’s family, to ease the financial stress that this tragic event will be having on them at this time,” the GoFundMe reads.
They say the funds will “go a long way to supporting Kiwi’s family during a time none of us want to imagine”.
Buis is survived by his wife, Tabatha and his three children Azriel (16), Bronx (13) and Enzo (6).
