Wilson Homes has again been named Tasmania’s biggest home builder, after nearly doubling the number of homes it started in the past year.
The result comes from the 2025/26 HIA Housing 100, which was released at an event in Melbourne.
The list ranks Australia’s 100 largest residential builders by how many homes they start each year.
Wilson Homes began 435 homes in Tasmania, up 215 on the 220 it started the year before.
SJM Property Developments was second in the state with 335 starts, followed by Construct Creative with 96.
Wilson Homes is part of the NEX Building Group, which moved from fourth to third on the national list with 3,585 starts, an increase of 687 homes nationally.
Wilson Homes chief executive Tim Ribbons said the result was a credit to the entire Wilson team.
“While current market conditions are challenging, the Top 100 results highlight the underlying strength of buyer demand when market conditions are favourable,” Ribbons said.
“The current environment does, however, provide an opportunity for businesses like ours to grow market share by providing compelling reasons for buyers to choose our brands over our competitors.”
Nationally, Sumitomo Forestry Australia topped the list with 8,038 starts, ending a decade of Metricon holding the number one spot.
The Housing 100 builders started 70,553 homes in total, up 9.4% on the previous year.
HIA chief economist Tim Reardon warned the good run may not last.
He said falling new home sales during 2026 “will increasingly weigh on commencements in 2027”.
