The Aikenhead Point walkway has been upgraded with new handrails and lighting, with Devonport City Council completing works to modernise the ageing infrastructure.
The improvements are expected to make the walkway safer and more accessible, with the old pole lights having been out of action for years.
Deteriorating conditions at the site made getting equipment in a major challenge, but the council said their infrastructure team found alternative solutions to get the job done.
“All new handrails and lighting have been successfully installed, delivering a safer and more accessible experience for everyone using the walkway,” the council said.

It described the upgrade as “a massive improvement”.
” Especially considering the old pole lights hadn’t been working for years,” the council said.

The revamped walkway is expected to be a welcome change for the local community, particularly fishers who regularly use the area.
