Tasmanians in several regions of the state are being warned of damaging winds from early Monday morning.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for across most forecast districts.
The weather bureau says an approaching cold front is “tightening the pressure gradient” across Tasmania, resulting in strong westerly winds.
“Damaging westerly winds of 60 to 70km/h with gusts of around 100km/h are likely across southern, central and eastern parts of the state, including over Hobart, from early Monday morning,” the Bureau said.
“Peak gusts of around 120km/h are possible about the coastal strip of the East Coast district between Scamander and Swansea, as well as exposed and elevated areas of the state.”
The weather bureau expects the winds to weaken late Monday afternoon.
“The front is forecast to have crossed the state by late Monday afternoon, reducing the risk of damaging winds, however, conditions are expected to remain gusty,” it said.
“Locations which may be affected include St Helens, Swansea, New Norfolk, Hobart, Geeveston and Dover.”
