Stormy weather has impacted all Tasmanian ports, with strong winds leading to the cancellation of multiple inbound and outbound vessels.

TasPorts CEO Anthony Donald said the conditions have made it difficult to berth safely since early Saturday morning.

“Storm fronts this week are continuing to cause significant rough conditions and have been impacting the ports today from around 4am onwards,” he said.

“This morning Spirit of Tasmania I and Liekut berthed in Devonport with tug assistance during a lull in the squalls, as did Peregrine in Burnie.”

The weather has also impacted shipping in Hobart, with further delays likely based on weather conditions, TasPorts said.

The disruptions have led to delays for passengers and freight operators, including the cancellation of the Saturday evening Spirit of Tasmania service to Geelong.

The ferry is now scheduled to depart Devonport at 7:30am on Sunday instead.

Inbound cement ship Wyuna has also been delayed and is now expected to arrive in Devonport on Monday morning due to “risk exposure” for personnel and infrastructure.
