A new-look Jetstar aircraft will take to Tasmanian skies across the coming months after it was given a colourful makeover in Qantas’ Melbourne hangar.

The Airbus A320 ‘flying with pride’ plane was wrapped as a ‘message of solidarity with the LGBTQI+ community’ ahead of Melbourne’s Midsumma Festival next month.

The airline say the 180-seat plane, registered as VH-VFY, will be seen at some airports all across Australia sporting its rainbow star and a livery spanning over 9 metres in length.

Tasmania marked the aircraft’s first stop on its journey, departing from Melbourne to Launceston on Wednesday morning before heading to Hobart later in the day.

Midsumma Festival Director Karen Bryant says seeing the Jetstar aircraft travelling around the country with its pride livery “will bring much joy and visibility to LGBTQIA+ community members and allies”.

The airline did not say whether the livery will become a permanent year-round feature of its fleet.
