A driver has died after a head-on crash on the Huon Highway south of Hobart on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene about 3:10pm yesterday, roughly one kilometre south of the Huon Road intersection at Lower Longley.
Early investigations suggest one vehicle lost control while going around a sweeping right-hand bend and crossed onto the wrong side of the road, where it hit an oncoming vehicle.
The driver of that first vehicle was trapped in the wreck and suffered critical injuries.
Paramedics treated the driver at the scene before taking them to the Royal Hobart Hospital, where they died about 8:30pm.
The driver of the second vehicle and two child passengers were checked over at the scene and also taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital, with minor injuries.
Police have not formally identified the driver who died and are still working to notify next of kin.
“Our thoughts are with the deceased person’s family and loved ones,” Tasmania Police said.
Investigations into the crash are continuing and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
