Tasmania’s first six VFLW home matches will be broadcast on the Seven Network, giving the state’s women’s football team its biggest ever television audience.

The AFL announced the expanded broadcast deal, which will see the matches air on 7Mate in Tasmania and stream nationally on 7plus Sport for free.

It builds on an existing partnership between the AFL, Seven Network and Sports Entertainment Group that already covers Tasmania’s men’s VFL home games.

All other VFLW matches will continue to be streamed live and free on AFL.com.au and the AFL Live Official App.

The 2026 VFLW season kicks off on Saturday, May 16, with a 16-round home and away season.

AFL Executive General Manager of Finance, Broadcast and Infrastructure Matthew Chun said the deal was a major step forward.

“It’s not just a great result for the Tasmania Football Club, but also supporters of Victorian-based teams who can watch their VFLW team in action when travelling to take on the Devils.”

Seven Network Head of AFL and Sport Innovation Gary O’Keeffe said the move followed strong ratings for Tasmania’s men’s VFL games.

“Passionate Devils fans in Tasmania won’t be the only ones to watch their women’s side’s home matches, with the six games also broadcast live and free nation-wide on 7plus Sport,” O’Keeffe said.

“We cannot wait to see this team make history.”

Tasmania Football Club CEO Brendon Gale said the partnership was about more than just broadcasting.

“When we talk about building Tasmania’s football club, we mean for everyone,” Gale said.

“These young women deserve to be seen, and every Tasmanian deserves the chance to watch them play.”

The first broadcast is Tasmania against the Casey Demons at North Hobart Oval on May 16 at 2:35pm, with five more home games to follow through the season.
